BIO
I’m inspired by my local environment using colour and texture to create handmade prints. Living in Edinburgh I am able to find endless inspiration everywhere from the sometimes austere beauty of the Pentlands and the Granets to the lush countryside and rugged coastline of East Lothian. I love being out in nature enjoying the countryside and local bird and animal life. The foxes and birds who visit my garden often give me inspiration as do the majestic Herons often seen in local rivers and on Cramond beach. I have done many drawings and prints of the noble hares I have so often stopped to watch racing away over the fields when I am out cycling on my bike (another constant source of inspiration for me)
I work both on silk and in print.

When working on silk I love working with the natural flow of the inks on the material and I often find the flow of ink evolving and changing as I work on them

I also choose to work in print work as I love the versatility of the print making process. I especially love the fact that the final images I produce are in part informed by the actual printmaking process used to create them, and the fact the final image is only revealed after it has been through the press or once the last screen has been lifted. Every single print is individual as the combination of ink and pressure is never exactly the same and unexpected accidents can often end in more exciting final results
I enjoy combining the techniques of screen printing, lino cut, drypoint and collograph. The main aim of my work is to reflect the world around me through a personal perspective using the medium of ink
